Spider veins can now be eliminated with Dr. Rivkin’s non-invasive, non-surgical methods. Our 1064 YAG laser and the new Veinwave treatment for spider veins are less destructive and less painful than traditional laser therapies, and require little or no recovery time.
Spider veins are unsightly threadlike blood vessels that most commonly appear on the legs, knees, ankles, cheeks, and nose. A healthy diet, sun avoidance, regular exercise, and professional skin maintenance may deter the onset of spider veins, but they continue to affect up to 60% of the population despite preventive measures.
Both women and men suffer from spider veins, which are often triggered by pregnancy, weight gain, hormonal changes, sun exposure, or injury. Frequently, occupational habits such as prolonged sitting or standing trigger the development of noticeable spider veins, especially in the lower extremities. Age and genetics also play an important role in the appearance and location of spider veins. Regardless of the cause, there is now a permanent solution.
The new Veinwave treatment is the most effective strategy used to combat unpleasant thread veins and cases of rosacea where there are well-defined capillaries. Unlike traditional sclerotherapy and laser treatments, the Veinwave can be used to treat fine weblike spider veins on any part of the body including the most sensitive areas. It is especially recommended for managing noticeable vessels in the face.
Veinwave is distinct because there is no bruising, burning, swelling, scarring, or other hindering side effects. The procedure is quick, relatively painless, and essentially risk free. Veinwave requires minimal downtime and you may resume normal activities immediately after receiving a 15-minute treatment. There is no bandaging or special after care instructions. The Veinwave can be used on all different types of skin.
Veinwave works by emitting high frequency energy directly into the problem area. A heated current is applied through an extremely thin, insulated needle that penetrates the enlarged vein. The microwaves cause the spider vein to scar down, collapse, and be naturally absorbed by the body. This process is referred to as thermo-coagulation. Once the unwanted vessels are broken up, the spider veins will usually not return.
You can expect to feel a delicate prickly sensation as the Veinwave therapy is administered followed by a slight reddening of the area. In some instances the area may remain pink or raised for no more than a few weeks. Light scabbing may occur but will disappear within a few days.
The Veinwave is so effective that it can treat up to 20 inches of thread veins in a 15-minute session. Lasting results can be enjoyed after a minimum number of treatments. There is no special pre-treatment preparation and the outcome is both instant and remarkable.
Diffuse Spider Veins
We treat areas with a diffuse spider vein pattern with the 1064 YAG laser. In cases where this kind of extensive “spider web” pattern of veins occurs, the 1064 YAG laser is better than the Veinwave because it can coagulate several spider veins in one pulse. Because the widespread distribution, these areas may have to be treated multiple times to achieve permanent destruction of the vessels.
The 1064 YAG laser emits light of a specific wavelength that is absorbed by the red vessel, heating and destroying it, without damaging the surrounding tissue. The YAG laser causes mild, if any discomfort and results in mild redness and swelling. Patients can usually go back to work immediately. We normally recommend two to three treatments, about a month apart.
Larger Veins
Larger varicose veins are injected with a solution that causes them to shut down, a procedure known as sclerothrerapy. This is safe and fairly painless. Most patients can go back to work the same day or the next day. We recommend wearing a compressive wrap for a few days to speed healing and optimize the results.
