Westside Aesthetics is proud to now offer the Fraxel SR1500 – a powerful upgrade to the Fraxel Laser system that just became available in January of 2007. Dr. Rivkin is one of the first cosmetic specialists in Los Angeles to have upgraded his Fraxel system. The Fraxel SR1500, or Fraxel 2, is a more powerful laser that provides better results in less treatment sessions than the traditional Fraxel Laser. Most importantly, the optics of the Fraxel 2 are optimized to deliver these powerful treatments with significantly less pain. Our patients are reporting fantastic results and they are much less concerned about discomfort. The Fraxel SR1500 also does not require the face to be painted blue, as was necessary with the older Fraxel device.
Fraxel, or fractional laser skin resurfacing, is a safe and gentle alternative to traditional laser resurfacing. Dr. Rivkin has found that Fraxel is very effective for resolving cosmetic problems which are normally difficult to treat including:
- Acne scars
- Age spots
- Aging skin
- Sun damaged skin
- Enlarged pores
- Fine lines, especially around the mouth and eyes.
Rather than taking off the entire outer layer of skin, as ablative laser resurfacing does, fractional resurfacing uses a very narrow column of light, targeting and destroying microscopic areas while leaving healthy cells surrounding the destroyed area intact. This allows for quick healing and reduced pain. The healthy cells left behind aid in the healing process. Collagen production is stimulated, the skin tightens and pigmentation is normalized.
Typically two to five sessions are required, spaced about three weeks apart, for complete treatment. This gradual process is safer and healthier for your skin, and involves only mild discomfort during the procedure. In order to make sure that your treatment is as pain free as possible, you will have numbing cream placed on the areas being treated for one hour prior to treatment (so plan on arriving early), and cold air will be used during the treatment. After Fraxel treatment, the area treated tends to experience some mild swelling for about two days, followed by about a week of mild to moderate redness and peeling. After the first two days, you look like you have a sunburn for about a week.
