Sagging jowls are traditionally treated with a surgical jowl lift. This is an expensive, invasive procedure, which involves significant pain, swelling, and a long recovery period. The results of surgery typically last up to ten years. As an alternative, Dr. Rivkin has created a non-invasive, non-surgical combintation of procedures which is safe and requires no recovery time. The results of this technique last several years.
Dr. Rivkin’s technique involves Ulthera ultrasound skin tightening treatment to lift and firm the skin of the jawline, as well as injection of filler – either Juvederm or Radiesse into the space just in front of the jowl. This 2 step approach restores the original, youthful contour of the jawline and the jowly area becomes much less noticeable. Unlike a surgical facelift, this method does not require general anesthesia and relies instead on powerful numbing topical creams, allowing you to see the results at intervals during the procedure and give feedback. You control the results. The filler injection procedure is virtually painless and usually takes less than half an hour. Most people can go back to work immediately. The Ulthera procedure has some discomfort associated with it, but we manage this with creams and oral medication such as Xanax and Vicodin. The Ulthera treatment takes about an hour to an hour and a half to perform. There is minimal redness after Ulthera and people can go back to work the next day.
