Non invasive laser resurfacing and light based treatments have advanced to the point where they provide outstanding results without the pain, swelling and down time of traditional surgical laser resurfacing. They are also more affordable and accessible to the common person. Through experience, Dr. Rivkin has found that certain systems are safer and more effective than others. Despite the considerable hype that each new system generates when it hits the market, new laser technology does not necessarily mean better laser technology.

We use the Lumenis Light Sheer Diode and the Palomar StarLux Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) systems for laser hair removal. The Diode laser is in our Westwood office and the Palomar is in our Malibu and Beverly Hills offices. The Diode eliminates hair in fewer sessions than the Palomar IPL, but Palomar treatments are almost completely pain free, whereas the Diode does cause some mild discomfort during the procedure.

We use the Palomar StarLux IPL and the Lumenis Vasculight IPL systems for our photofacials. Again, the Lumenis device is in our Westwood office, and the Palomar system is in our Malibu and Beverly Hills offices. Each of these systems works great to eliminate pigmentation irregularities, rosacea, and shrink pores. Each system also has a 1064 YAG laser to treat spider veins on the legs.

The Westwood office recently acquired a Fraxel laser and we are very pleased to offer its remarkable benefits to all of our clients. The Fraxel is a new technology that provides the results of laser resurfacing without the downtime. Instead of resurfacing the entire top layer of skinat once, Fraxel treatment involves only 15 to 20% of the area of skin being treated. This gives the surrounding skin cells time to heal, tightening the skin and eliminating brown and red pigmentation. Fraxel is currently the leading treatment for acne scars and Dr. Rivkin has had great success treating this very difficult condition.
