Anti-aging breakthroughs. If you don’t want a surgical facelift but you want to take years off your looks, you have a lot of new options. Health specialist Juana Lara is here now for a break down of what is available in the syringe.

“Michelle, there is a whole new world of injectable that doctors say can help stop the clock on aging, they fill in wrinkles, smooth overlines and generally fight the effects of gravity and age. But what’s right for you?

We take a closure look at what is out there, how much it costs and how long they last.

There is no need to go under the knife anymore to get some of the cosmetic results you want.

“The trend in cosmetic procedure and trend in plastic surgery in general is for more and more a noninvasive procedures”.

Collagen started the trend and now new injectable fillers can erase wrinkles and create the illusion of a younger face.

“We are finding that these materials can be used for things that previously we really only thought could be done by surgical means.”

One example, dark circles under the eye, instead of blepheroplasty which requires the surgical removal of fat under the eye and two weeks of recovery time, Dr. Alexander Rivkin says cosmetic specialist can now use a filler and see results in minute.

“If you fill in that area just underneath there, you eliminate those dark circles because a lot of big part of what those dark circles are is a shadow falling into that depression just underneath the eye.

Fillers are popular for minimizing smile lines, smoothing out fine lines around the lips and plumping up fine lines between the eyes. What are these new fillers? Many are made of Hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in the body, Restylane, Hylaform, and Captique are all Hyaluronic acid fillers. Although, Hylaform contains Hyaluronic acids from rooster combs, which could cause allergy. Radiesse also known as Radiance is made up of an ingredient called calcium hydroxyapatite. Some doctors prefer it for the marionette lines that run from your nose to your lips. Here is how they compare. Restylane runs about $500 per syringe and can last 6 to 8 months. Captique will cost you about $300 to $500 per syringe and results can last three months. Hylaform costs $400 to $800 per three quarters of syringe and also lasts three months and Radiesse will run you $1400 per syringe but lasts the longest, 2 years. Women who have had the fillers say the new option make aging a much more graceful experience.

“I feel beautiful, I feel young and I don’t feel my age.”

Not all fillers are created equal. Some work better in different areas of the face, for example, some doctors prefer Restylane for the lips and Radiesse for imperfections around the nose or mouth. As for the pain factor injections in and around the lips can be particularly painful so doctors will often use an anesthetic first to numb the skin and you will have some minor swelling at first but you will be able to see the results immediately.
