What is Diode Laser Hair Removal?

Excessive and unwanted hair is a condition that affects many people and can be both embarrassing and inconvenient. Between shaving, waxing and chemical depilatory products, the quest for smooth skin can be intimidating.

Most products and treatments on the market only provide temporary results and can cause side effects such as ingrown hair, razor burn, redness, pain and irritation. At Westside Aesthetics, we have a safe, painless and permanent solution. In our office we use the Soprano Diode laser.

The Soprano is a new 810 nm diode laser (the industry gold standard) that is completely painless. Without exaggeration, it is by far the least uncomfortable laser on the market today. Instead of a pulse method of treatment, the Soprano treats in a continuous motion.

The laser energy does not go into the skin as a painful blast, but rather heats the hair follicles gradually and gently. This system is about twice as fast as any other system that we have used and is just as effective. Most patients are hair free within four to five treatments.

Don’t take our word for it–we encourage our patients to gather information and reviews from the web prior to treatment. You will see that this really is a step above any other laser hair removal technology.

We thoroughly cool the area before and during the procedure to ensure maximum comfort. Although it is not usually needed, we also have numbing creams available for those with very sensitive skin.

We can remove hair from any part of your body. The areas most commonly treated are:

  • Underarms
  • Back
  • Chest
  • Legs
  • Bikini area (men and woman)
  • Upper lip
  • Chin
  • Sideburns
  • Head

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

People with light skin and dark hair will see the best results in the fewest number of treatments. Darker skin requires more treatment sessions. Because the light targets darker tissue, darker skin will absorb more energy.

We use less energy when treating people with darker skin to prevent damage. We recommend that you stay out of the sun for a few weeks before and during your treatment period.

Light hair is more difficult to remove. There is currently no technology that will reliably remove grey or blonde hair, but we can remove red and light brown hair effectively. It takes a little longer, but our treatments are effective even on darker skin pigmentations and lighter hair colors.

The Laser Hair Removal Procedure

The Soprano Diode laser hair removal system typically requires three to five sessions. You may need a touch up session after six months to remove any stray hairs and complete the process.

After the conclusion of your laser hair removal series of treatments, any additional treatments that you need to touch up the results will be at 25% off.

Pros and Cons of Laser Hair Removal

The Diode Laser Hair Removal treatment is perfect for the skin types and hair colors mentioned above. For those with blonde or grey hair, this treatment will not be successful. For everyone else, it is a life changing solution to address unwanted or excessive hair growth. As long as you can commit to the required treatment plan, you will benefit from permanent results.

Compared to other hair removal options, Diode Laser Hair Removal at Westside Aesthetics is affordable and easy. You won’t have to worry about razor burn, ingrown hair, bumps or redness. Best of all, you will be free of embarrassing unwanted hair and the hassle of repetitive and temporary treatments.

During your free initial consultation, Dr. Rivkin will evaluate your unique needs and explain the procedure in detail. You will have the opportunity to view before and after photos, so that you will know what to expect from the treatment. He will then introduce you to one of our expert laser specialists.

Dr. Rivkin’s patients know that they can get in touch with him at any time. He’s always in the office at Westside Aesthetics, and is personally involved in every treatment.

What is the Difference Between Laser and IPL?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Laser. Both laser and IPL use high-frequency energy to stop the growth cycle of the hair without damaging the surrounding skin or tissue much.

Both IPL and laser hair removal use very different technology to produce the energy required to remove the hair. Laser is slightly more expensive than IPL. Laser, however, is more effective than IPL when it comes to complete hair removal.

Lasers can target a large area and remove several hairs in one pulse. In addition to this, laser hair removal is much more precise than IPL hair removal.

Also, laser hair removal can treat all skin types and colors. This is one of its biggest advantages. IPL, however, often leaves burns on dark-toned skin.

Frequently asked Questions

What are the most popular areas for laser hair removal?

Laser treatments can be used to remove hair from almost any area of the body. Some of the most common areas include the face, chest, back, underarms, bikini area, and the legs. Laser hair removal leaves your skin absolutely smooth and hair-free.

What are the risks of laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal, as such, does not pose any risk to the patient. However, if operated by someone who does not know how to properly handle the equipment, laser hair removal can leave burns on the skin.

Immediately after the procedure, patients are likely to notice some swelling and redness around the area which has been treated. These are the temporary side effects of laser hair removal and will subside within a few hours.

Is laser hair removal painful?

Patients who have opted for laser hair removal have reported that it is a relatively painless procedure. A slight pinch is felt with each pulse of the laser when it falls on your skin. You are likely to feel this sensation during the initial sessions. Once you get used to it, you do not feel any pain during the course of the treatment.

What is the cost of laser hair removal?

The cost of laser hair removal can vary from clinic to clinic. It can also include the cost of medications, numbing agents, facilities, and the technician’s fee. On an average, the cost of treating the bikini area is between $350 and $500.

For larger areas like the back and the chest, a laser hair removal treatment can cost anywhere between $600 and $900. This is simply the cost of the laser hair removal treatment alone. The cost varies according to the additional costs.

Can I wax or shave between laser hair removal sessions?

Waxing in between laser hair removal sessions should be avoided. Waxing disrupts the hair growth cycle and reduces the efficiency of the laser treatment. Other hair removal options to avoid include plucking and electrolysis. If your sessions are planned out at every eight weeks or so, definitely do not wax, pluck, or undergo hair removal by electrolysis between those sessions for optimal results.

Shaving, on the other hand does not interfere with the hair growth cycle and is recommended, especially directly before a laser hair removal session.

When can I go into the sun after treatment and do I need any protection?

The treated area should not have any sun exposure, or any kind of tanning, for minimally two weeks prior to treatment and for two weeks after. Even after that period has elapsed it is best to wear sun protection to ensure that your skin is protected from harmful rays and to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation or other conditions.

Can I put on deodorant or lotion after treatment?

If you are having your underarms treated with laser hair removal, then you should avoid putting on deodorant prior to treatment and after treatment. You should wait at least 24 to 48 hours after treatment before putting on any deodorant as it may irritate your skin.

If you are going to put on a lotion after treatment, then aloe vera is best or an unscented moisturizer that is recommended for sensitive skin. These will soothe the skin rather than irritate it after treatment. Avoid any lotions that are scented or balms that heat the skin, as your skin will be sensitive to heat, for at least the first 24 to 48 hours after treatment.
